Night Sweats and Our Hormonal Changes
Night sweats are similar to the hot flushes that we may experience through the day. They can range from mild to excessive sweating.
They are in fact one of the most common PeriMenopausal and Menopausal symptoms, with up to 75% of women experiencing them.
For some women, they can be so intense that they can dramatically disturb their sleep patterns. Which in turn, can then impact many other aspects of their daily life, with 51% of women having reported that they take time away from their business or career due to PeriMenopausal and Menopausal symptoms.
MY NIGHT SWEATS STORY
Having so many night sweats I didn’t ever think I would sleep through the night with both legs under the duvet again.
When I understood why I had them during my sleep, then I could manage them.
Do you want to sleep through the night? Then read on to find out how.
WHAT CAUSES NIGHT SWEATS
Hot flushes and night sweats can start a few months or years before your periods stop and usually continue for several years after your last period.
They are caused by fluctuations in your oestrogen levels affecting your body’s temperature control.
During our hormone fluctuations other things can also trigger a hot flush making them worse. I kept a diary making a note when they occurred and what could have triggered them.
